A short film festival must leave the door open to any film format not enjoying favor from the general public: animation, documentary film, video-art, performance art, net-art, etc., to offer a diversity of material and ensure a look full of richness at audiovisual filmmaking.
For this reason, the full-length films can also be an integral part of a short film festival, though indeed, those full-length films that are more unsettling and innovative, the ones scratching at the limits. Thus was this section born, entitled as it is because the filmmakers presented in it go one step beyond the conventional reflection of reality.
This section we owe to the sponsorship of the Unicaja Foundation, a section that focuses on Spanish films managing to pass beyond the borders of our country —the films presented have received the blessing of such festivals as Berlin, San Sebastian and Cannes.
Important filmmakers personally present their films. Such as the two surprises from the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes, Pedro Aguilera and Albert Serra, whose extremely personal cinema defy any definition. There is also Gabriel Velázquez with Amateurs, a lovely fairy tale in a depressing setting, which was presented this year in Zabaltegi. And we mustn’t forget documentary film, represented by Invisibles, a collective film about 5 extremely serious world conflicts that have not been brought to light on the news. Fernando León de Aranoa, a director of one of the segments, will speak to us about the project in its totality, and about his particular contribution dealing with child soldiers of Uganda.
Four ways of reflecting the world. We have seen it often, but probably never in this way.
