Canal+ documentaries: following the trail of the cinema (II)

At last year’s festival, we started a section dedicated to documentary films. We led it off by presenting a selection of the best documentaries made by Canal+ so far this decade because these special film programs have always been notable for their rigor, sense of playfulness and, in short, their exceptional quality, which have made them worthy of special sections at international festivals and earned them remarkable critical acclaim.

The spectators in Almería were delighted with the films. For this reason, we believe it best to continue with Canal+, since there is still quite a bit more of their documentary production to be seen. And even then, this will hardly be the last of them.

This year, we offer a new series of documentaries by the prestigious channel and it is hard to highlight just one film in particular. We must mention the documentary about Clint Eastwood and the magnificent biographical sketch of David Lean and his film work. It would be a sin to forget the great film about the influence of the painter Edward Hopper in cinema or the sensational How Would Lubitsch Do It?, which earned an enthusiastic review from Diego Galán in El País. And of course, that marvelous interview of Pedro Almodóvar by Juan José Millás, directed by Jorge Ortiz de Landázuri (who will join us for the presentation), in which we are shown a monastic image of this director from La Mancha, a film with some truly memorable moments: like the one in which Almodóvar confesses to having lost his sense of humor, or the one in which he breaks down when remembering the death of his father.
