The County Council will give out 63.200 euros on its VII International Festival and the value of the publoc prize and the best video film have been increased
The International Film Festival Almeria in short´08 is gathering momentum during the summer while preparing some novelties for its next edition. In addition to the change of date (this year it will be held between 5th and 13th December), the event presents many other innovations regarding the last edition, of which some have been anticipated on the press release issued this morning by the member of the county council, responsible of the culture area, Caridad Herrerías Moya.
The main innovation refers to the introduction of a new prize to the best project of production provided with 17.000 euros to film a short in the province of Almeria. In that way, the subject matter will not be exclusively stuck in the Western genre, but opened to other subject matters and styles. Moreover motivation is encouraged by an increase of 2000 euros on the prize. The production company will have to be Spanish.
The responsible of culture has pointed out that this new award category has the purpose of promoting a creative work made in Almeria as a work of cultural and artistic interest, contributing to increase the province’s cultural heritage, and continuing with the tradition of filming in Almeria, which has already more than 50 years of celluloid history.
There are also innovations regarding the international competitive section of the VII edition of the International Festival of Shorts `Almeria in short´. So it’s been announced today by its director, Óscar de Julián, who has highlighted that among the 38.500 euros of this category, the public award, increases to 6500 euros, and a new award will be set up to the best director, granted by Fundacion Unicaja and endowed by 5000 euros. The awards to the best photography, the best script and the best performance are kept, all of them of 2000 euros each. The first prize to the best short is still one of the highest Spanish honours, being of 18000 euros. And once again, RTVA awards a prize to the Andalusia audiovisual creation of 1500 euros, (in collaboration with Obra Social Cajasol). Endowed with 3000 euros and a trophy, it also includes broadcasting rights for three years, without exclusivity, and the rights of the edition of a DVD of free distribution.
The X National Video film contest includes the same sections as last year but the prizes for the best piece of work and for films from Almeria have increased. All together 7700 euros will be given out, with a first prize of 2100 euros, a second one of 1900 euros, a RTVA prize to the Andalusia audiovisual creation of 1500 euros, the best video film from Almeria 1300 euros and the best script 800 euros. The prize of the Journalist Association of Almeria to the best performance in a short from Almeria will receive a trophy.
The deadline for enrolment to compete for the international section is before the 15th September, and for the National video film, before the 19th September. In both cases the date of production should be later than 1st January 2007. In the case of the project of production, the work cannot be presented after 15th October 2008, and its filming cannot start before 1st January 2009. The information about rules and conditions is available in the official web site of the festival from 13st August: www.almeriaencorto.es
